It’s been well documented that organizations that put people at the very center of their values and strategies outperform the competition. And now in the COVID19 world the importance of each precious life is right in the forefront. Protecting each one has been at the top of the worldwide agenda. Words like love, relationships, heart, support, empathy, caring are a part of almost every discussion. So while HR is ensuring that we have the competencies to meet the changing needs of our business partners, how can we lead an effort to make conscious compassion a foundation of the workplace culture? And why might this be the most important action we take post-COVID?

Simply put, relationships are going to be recognized as a work commodity, a brand, and a product. Environments of openness, safety and trust will recover, adapt and grow more quickly after this crisis. We’ll talk here about some of the key actions HR can be taking now. This will include modeling the compassion and positive connections that build work relationships across all areas of the workplace. And we’ll share small steps for moving forward immediately and doing what we all want to do…make a difference.

Denise "Dee" Borgoyn has worked in the health care and human resources fields for 40 years. After her career that includes positions in health care, senior living, call centers/customer service, and government, she is now an independent consultant, trainer and speaker. She applies what she’s learned in her experiences, partnering with organizations to build and sustain high-performing, positive work cultures.

Dee has a B.S. in Education, is a licensed Nursing Home Administrator in Virginia, and is a Senior Certified Practitioner in the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM-SCP). Maybe because she was born with a disability, she is especially sensitive to representing and serving people who face special challenges. She holds a Certificate of Mastery in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and also is the author of “28 Ways of Compassion: A Guide to Transformation & Leadership for a Relationship-Centric Health Care Culture” released in January of 2019.
